Peer-to-Peer - Protect Yourself

If you’re torrenting without going through any sort of proxy, then that means your IP address is directly visible to anyone when you connect them to download or seed a torrent. It basically means you have no security or anonymity whatsoever. To remedy this, it’s best to torrent through a VPN proxy service.

BTGuard

BTGuard works in the same way as the proxy we used for SSH tunneling, except that it’s not your own proxy we’re going through (which is the whole point). So basically, you set up your torrent client (such as uTorrent) to route all your traffic through BTGuard which routes that traffic through their different servers. This way, when torrenting, your IP address is never shown, only the IP address of the BTGuard servers. Hence, you’re safe! Check out the images below for a visual representation.

While BTGuard is a great choice, you can actually use any VPN service for this purpose (such as the one’s we recommend to remain anonymous on the web), but we recommend BTGuard since you don’t have to worry so much about terms of service and other issues, BTGuard was MADE to be torrented through.

Here are the list features of BTGuard:

  1. Simple download & install
  2. No records of usage stored
  3. 256-bit AES encryption
  4. Unlimited download speeds
  5. VPN includes OpenVPN & PPTP
